NamKhan Ecolodge

NamKhan Ecolodge is a tranquil riverside eco-resort located just 7km from the UNESCO World Heritage city of Luang Prabang in northern Laos. Originally an organic farm, the now ecolodge has been welcoming guests since October 2019, providing not just an idyllic place to stay, but also one where knowledge, sharing, and learning is passed on to all who visit for an educational, enlightening and enjoyable experience in the heart of nature.

Surrounded by the Nam Khan River on three sides, from which it gets its name, this hidden gem perfectly reflects Laos’ serenity and the peacefulness of its people, making it the ideal place to reconnect with nature and oneself. Luang Prabang Living

When designing the property, the ecolodge’s vision was to blend a luxurious living experience with the natural environment as much as possible, allowing guests to reconnect with nature, relax and re-energise without sacrificing comfort. Using sustainable woods and other local materials, combined with modern systems for energy efficiency, the lodgings available to guests are every bit as green as their bucolic surroundings.

There are seven accommodation types to choose from, the most prestigious of which is arguably the beautifully decorated Art Villa, named for its display of original art by well-known artists such as Bon, Alex Face, Ben Eine, and Dotmaster, all set within a private 1000m2 tropical garden, although those longing to connect with nature or those seeking a camping experience with a touch of class may prefer the NamKhan Tents located directly by the river.

Elsewhere the ecolodge features a whole host of facilities to enjoy, including the aforementioned organic farm, an outdoor swimming pool and fitness center, riverside yoga and meditation platform, beach and BBQ huts, wellness spa, on-site restaurant, outdoor cinema, a children’s playground, stables and equestrian center, tropical gardens, shared lounge, terrace, and a bar.

Farm-to-Table Cuisine

Located at an elevated position in the heart of the ecolodge, the Farm to Table restaurant certainly offers dining with a view—in one direction you’ll see the Nam Khan River, and in the other is the organic farm and lush tropical gardens, which coincidentally are growing the very fruit and vegetables served at the restaurant, ensuring fresh, healthy and balanced meals are available throughout the day.

The menu is a mix of traditional Lao such as Papaya Salad, Laap and Or Lham and western dishes of Tomato Bruschetta, Carbonara and their specialty Buddha Bowl to name but a few. There is also a set menu for the little ones and a separate vegan menu.

Outdoor Activities

Namkhan Ecolodge offers a multitude of outdoor activities suitable for all the family including: badminton, beach volleyball, kataw (traditional Lao sport), pétanque, slackline, archery and giant chess. You can experience trekking or cycling on marked trails, saddle up and go horseriding, relax on the beach or in the tropical gardens, take a refreshing dip in the pool, enjoy a movie at the outdoor cinema—the list is almost endless.

Why not unwind and center yourself with daily yoga, meditation, and Chi Kung classes (taught in English by fully qualified teachers) on the outdoor yoga platform overlooking the Nam Khan River, treat yourself to a massage in the spa, or take part in a variety of educational pursuits, from bamboo weaving and cooking classes, to fascinating (and stimulating!) coffee and organic farm workshops.
