Overview
Since 1901, The Strand has been a name synonymous with the immaculate service of a landmark hotel in Yangon. Today, the luxurious Strand riverboat reflects the refined elegance and ambiance of this historic hotel, taking you on an unforgettable cruise along the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River with magnificent views of Myanmar and its scenic heritage.
Your Cabin
The Strand Cruise Boat has 27 cabins in four different categories: Deluxe, Strand, State Suite and Strand Suite. Each has been furnished with style, with striking pieces of regional art complemented by indigenous teakwood flooring. Each offers ample space, a comfortable king-size bed, floor-to-ceiling windows, an en-suite bathroom, and complimentary Wi-Fi.
A semi-circular teak staircase connects the passenger decks, where the design palette is a fusion of Oriental influences with colonial accents. While harking back to the days of the British Empire in its ambiance, the vessel is equipped with the latest technology and safety features.
On Board Facilities And Activities
From dawn to dusk, the Sun Deck is the place to be, furnished with plenty of sofas and armchairs. Watch the ever-changing landscape while indulging in relaxing activities or enjoy a glorious sunset while the sommelier delights you with a wide choice of wines. To the front of the ship is an infinity-edged swimming pool, with sun loungers positioned on each side as well as a cabana section.
Ease your tired muscles with a massage in the spa, which will leave you ready to take on a new day of exploration and discovery. If you have an enquiring mind, check out the schedule of activities, lectures and historical demonstrations on Myanmar’s fascinating culture and customs.
Wining & Dining
Another pleasure awaiting you aboard The Strand is the exquisite cuisine, introducing local spices and Burmese culinary traditions within an upscale interpretation. You can also enjoy international dishes and signature dishes. On the Top Deck you’ll find the Sarkies Bar, which takes its inspiration from the original colonial bar at Strand Yangon. Here, you can try a signature Strand cocktail.
In the evenings, Sarkies becomes a stage for performances, dances and puppet shows, giving you an insight into the royal pleasures of the old Burma. Meals will be presented in The Strand Restaurant, on the alfresco Sun Deck or, occasionally, somewhere else very romantic and special, such as a sandbank in the middle of the Ayeyarwady.
Exclusive Experiences
Uniquely, The Strand Cruise has a number of private moorings along the Ayeyarwady, allowing for some exclusive experiences including visiting the temples of Ava after the crowds have departed. In fact, each day offers you another glimpse into the past and present of Myanmar.
As you meander through a traditional market, for example, observe how the thanaka paste on the women’s faces matches their longyi outfits; watch the production of betel leaf concoctions, taste some unfamiliar fruit and allow the scent of the incense to take you on a spiritual journey.
The slow pace of The Strand will carry you to another era, allowing you to see and touch a world that is inevitably vanishing. With the help of The Strand team, you will get a true sense of the beautiful and rich past of this ‘Golden Land’.
Itineraries & Prices
All itineraries are subject to change due to seasonal weather conditions (and resultant variations in river and tributary water levels) affecting accessibility to locations. Thus navigation routes, times and excursions may need to be modified at the cruise captain’s or your guide's discretion.
