Kochi Pandaw

An elegant ship specially designed to explore the culturally and wildlife-rich Kerala Backwaters.

Overview

Launching in October 2025, the Kochi Pandaw has been specially designed to explore the culturally and wildlife-rich Kerala Backwaters, whilst maintaining the much-loved classic cabins and wrap round promenade decks of her sister ships found sailing South and Southeast Asia’s exotic rivers.

The Kerala Backwaters

The Kerala Backwaters are a network of lagoons and canals lying parallel to the Arabian Sea of the Malabar coast of Kerala state in south-western India, a labyrinthine system of waterways, where terns, kingfishers, darters and cormorants abound, whilst otters and turtles can be spotted along the verdant banks lined by lush palm trees and leafy vegetation.

In the midst of this wondrous landscape there are a number of towns and cities with a culture unique to the backwaters. Whilst the Arabs brought Islam in the 7th century, Kerala, or Malabar as it was once known, had been visited by St Thomas the Apostle in 52AD and has had a strong Christian minority with many fine old churches, later embellished by the Portuguese in the 16th century.

Exciting Excursions

The Kochi Pandaw will operate weekly an eight-day circular itinerary from Kochi port visiting the main towns and remoter areas of the 900 km or so of waterways that connect the rivers and lakes comprising the Kerala Backwaters. There will be exciting visits to ancient churches, Hindu temples, artisan villages and the legendary beaches of the Malabar coast.

The Kerala people are highly industrious, and the region’s artisanal workshops and boatyards provide a fascinating insight into traditional craftsmanship, and one of the joys of exploring the backwaters is to see Keralan life first hand. Keralan cuisine is rich in fish and seafood and will be a feature of any expedition on the Kochi Pandaw.

Life On Board

The fruit of an exciting collaboration between premier river cruise operators and Kochi-based specialist naval architects, the RV Kochi Pandaw will have 10 deluxe staterooms—4 upper deck staterooms and 6 main deck staterooms—each 170 square feet (16sqm) in size, finished in teak and brass and featuring panoramic French windows, kimonos and slippers, and spa-branded amenities.

Her outdoor dining area and indoor saloon will be the social hub of activity, where you can enjoy entertainment on board including a series of cultural performances, educational talks, and cooking classes, or simply relax in the good company of like minded travelers, or enjoy a good book of contemporary and classic literature from the ship’s library.

Kerala offers an incredible diversity of culture in addition to breathtaking scenery, beaches and its own cuisine, and the RV Kochi Pandaw promises to provide an incredible base from which to explore the riches of the region, and a much-anticipated level of comfort comparable to—as well as a great option to combine well with—river expeditions on India’s Ganges or Brahamputra.
